Highlights for Curly Hair in Barcelona: Face-Framing or All-Over Dimension?

If you wear your hair curly most days, judge your highlights on curls. A ribbon of colour can look delicate on straightened hair and much bolder when it sits on the outside of a ringlet. The first decision is where you want to see brightness when your hair is dry and styled the way you usually wear it.

At Mirik Beauty in Barcelona, we plan curly highlights around your natural pattern, starting colour, density and how often you want to come back. Here’s how to decide what to ask for.

Start with how your curls fall

Show your colourist where you part your hair and whether you usually tuck it behind your ears, wear it down or tie it up. A section that looks obvious when stretched can disappear underneath another curl as it dries. If you change your part often, say so before the placement is mapped out.

Bring a photo of your hair dry on a normal day and one inspiration photo with a texture close to yours. Point to the amount of brightness you like and where you see it. That gives your colourist something more useful to work with than a shade name alone.

When face-framing highlights make sense

Choose this direction if you want to see more light around your face and keep most of your base colour. For an understated result, ask to see where the first bright pieces will start near your part and temples. If you pull your hair back often, ask how those pieces will sit when the front curls are lifted away from your face.

When you want colour through the back and sides

If you want more dimension from several angles, ask about spacing lighter ribbons through the visible layers. Keeping some of your base colour between them can make each ribbon easier to see. On dense curls, you may also want a little brightness underneath so the colour is visible when your hair moves or is tied up.

Think about grow-out before choosing contrast. A subtle ribbon starting away from the root can blend as your hair grows. A brighter piece close to your part may show regrowth sooner, especially against a dark base.

Mention old highlights, permanent colour, box dye or smoothing treatments, even if they were months ago. The ends can still carry that history. If they feel fragile or your curls have changed after previous lightening, we’ll assess the condition before agreeing how much lightening makes sense in one visit.

What to book at Mirik Beauty

Choose Mechas Curly Method for highlights designed around your waves or curls. Our booking page lists the service from €120 and shows 2 hours 30 minutes. The final price depends on length, density, technique and finish. Ask us to confirm the quote and what’s included before we start.

If you’d like to see the placement on your natural curl pattern before leaving, ask about the premium highlights option with toning and curl definition. If you mainly want to change the overall shade, ask about Colour and Curl Definition instead.

We’re at Carrer de Balmes 190 in Sarrià–Sant Gervasi. You can talk through the plan with our team in English, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese. Bring a photo of your curls as you usually wear them and tell us which parts you’d like to brighten.
